Best Products for A Long Bike Ride

When going out on a long bike ride, my cycling friends always ask me which products I prefer for the most sustained energy, and the least cardboardy taste! I always respond with these staples to my diet. Wheter for road or mountain rides, these products will keep you hydrated, full of protiens and salts, and sans cotton mouth or a face puckerd up with regret that you just ate that!

Hydration:

nuun5

Nuun– Nuun tablets come in canisters of 16 tablets which are available at most bike shops all over. They replentish salts and precious electorlites lost on long rides, and have a very unobtrusive taste to them. Raging in flavors from Gogi Berry to Cucumber Mint, Nuun makes your water taste enhanced, without the extra sugar and chalky taste. Slightly effervescent and easy to go down, I reccomend dropping one tab in your bottle and keeping a hydration pack full of good old H20.

Eats:

CLIF MOJO Dipped Smores

Cliff Mojo Bars- Tastey and filling, Mojo’s get me going every time. Go with the salty nut, or fruit with nut variety and you wont be dissapointed. Long lasting energy and great taste, as the ingredients are kept to a minimum! Don’t like the mealy texture of normal Cliff Bars (I do), check out the Mojo and see if its for you!

Cliff Energy Bloks– Also by Cliff, these Energy Blocks are delicious, easy to administer, and give you a great boost of energy when consumed with copious H20! Be sure to bring some on long road rides to keep from cramping up. I reccomend the Margerueta flavored blocks which have bits of salt in them to give them a unique flavor.

Gu Energy Gel– Gu makes some darn good Gel! Check them out if you want energy on the go in the form of a creamy treat. I prefer the chocolate/vanilla/coffee varieties, though some may find their fruit options tempting as well. Gu offers a large line of products for different durations of physical activity and are a great addition to your arsenal of supplement bike food.

AllensRiceCakes1

Homemade Rice Cakes– Saved the best for last. Here is my variation on the recipie: Make 2 cups of white sticky rice, and refrigerate until cold. Grab some bacon, fry it up, but keep the fat….. Fry up some egg and set aside, chop cashews and bacon then add all of this to the rice. Also add raisins, a spot of Brag Amino Acid and a dalop of Almond Butter, or similar (peanut will overpower) and a sprinkle of parmasean cheese. Finally add a bit of bacon grease to cause it to all stick together when molded into squares and refrigerated. Mold and fold up into tin foil squares. Trust me, this will be the best option…and you may never go back to store bought. Heres a link to the original recipie…though trust me, my additions are worth it.
