Shed Hunting: 5 Tips to Become a Better Bone Collector

5shedhuntingtips

Shed hunting can be a very exciting outdoor activity and a great way to get you back into hiking shape this Spring. For years I’ve been wanting to get into shed hunting and this year I finally decide to give it a go. I live in Heber City, Utah where you have more 4-legged neighbors than you do humans, so I thought this would be the perfect year to get started.

Serious shed hunters start looking for sheds around February, but I wasn’t aware of this so I just started this month. First day out we found a HUGE 6-point Elk shed and then a nice 4-point Buck shed. I’ll tell you the excitement that you get when you find one of these things is amazing. It becomes addicting fast, and I’ve been out hiking looking for more almost everyday since. I’ll probably be using our sheds to make some type of decoration or furniture piece.

If you’re interested in doing a little shed hunting yourself I’d highly recommend it. These wonderful gifts from our mountain friends have helped me to appreciate our wildlife even more and gain a stronger love fore the outdoors. Once you find one you will fill gratitude and thankfulness inside of you and the feeling is amazing. Below are some shed hunting tips to help you get started!
