Will You Be Our Valentine?

HookUp-640x250

Do you feel the love? We know we do here at OutdoorEnd! Sure, some people like it, and some people hate it, but we feel that Valentines day is a great opportunity to show love, even if its love for you! Why not then, treat yourself (or your significant other) to a day of awesome outdoorsyness. With restaurants packed and reserved for weeks on end, you can count on a quiet, contemplative walk down your favorite trail, and a nice home-cooked meal of local fare to make you feel like you’ve beaten the Valentines Day “expectations”.

Here’s our “perfectly-average valentines day” in a nutshell:

Wake up late, and make your favorite morning beverage, then step outside with as few articles of clothing as possible (not conducive in a city environment) and bask in the fresh air. On each breath in think about how calming it is to just stand there and breathe. Don’t think about the people staring at you, push away all the stressors of your life and focus on the now! If you’re with your spouse/significant other, look deep into their eyes and tell them how they make you feel in that moment, do what feels natural…you’re breaking like 2-4 laws right now if you’re still in public…

Go back inside and put some pants on! Next, prepare a light breakfast, pack up a sac lunch or a picnic. If you’re feeling fancy pack a bottle of your favorite wine/craft beer and head off to your favorite trailhead. Hike up to your favorite lake, waterfall, mountain view or what have you and post up inside the big heart shaped ring of rocks you made the day before. Lunch time!

MDH-Valentine-PicnicAfter some eating and frolicking, return to your car and go home for a brief siesta. This can also be supplemented with a physical incarnation of the musical piece popularized by The Starland Vocal Band in June of 1976. Not catching our drift? This activity cannot be preformed in the champagne room…

Following your respite, prepare for dinner. Hopefully you made those reservations at that Micheline rated restaurant! If not….you screwed up! Right! Grab some local protein….lamb, fine cuts of beef and duck are all prime contenders! Next, prepare a side….risotto, brussel sprouts and pancetta, fingerling potatoes…shoot the moon as this dinner has some serious implications! Grab a nice bottle of wine, turn on the fire place and put on some baby making music….If you’re lucky enough to be in a warm climate, eat dinner outside surrounded by candles, or maybe in front of a fire pit.

Short of spending lots of money on a vacation, restaurants and jewelry this is in our humble opinion the best way to express your undying love on this special day. Be yourself, be outdoors, and be the change you wish to see in the world! Have a great Valentines Day!
